HAND-CARVED & POLYCHROMED DOLL
MAKER UNKNOWN
AMERICAN FOLK ART, circa 1840
Hand-Carved Wood, Polychrome, and Fabric Dress with Lace Undergarment
Size: 10 x 23 in; 25.4 x 58.4 cm
Outstanding one-of-a-kind example of an early 19th century child's doll created by a loving father's wood carving and fence post paint polychrome with hand-sewn dress and undergarment by the child's mother. The doll's heavily-worn hands are an especially-moving record, memory and testament to the apparent many years of hand-holding tender loving care received by this magnificent survivor and object of affection, surviving and bearing witness long after its loving family have passed away.
