Collapsing the image of a crucified Christ together with the symbolic name of the historical hill on which he was martyred, the present work is a pure readymade - with no accessories necessary except your own unique perspective and imagination.

Golgotha (Greek: Γολγοθᾶ, translit. Golgothâ) or Calvary (Latin: Calvariae or Calvariae locus) was a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where, according to Christianity's four canonical gospels, Jesus was crucified.

All four gospels say that Jesus was crucified at “the place of a skull” (Matthew 27:33; Mark 15:22; Luke 23:33; John 19:17). The Greek word is “kranion” (from which we get the English word ‘cranium’}. The word is translated “Golgotha” in Hebrew and “Calvary” in Latin.

Since at least the early medieval period, it has been a destination for pilgrimage (see photos below). The exact location of Golgotha has been traditionally associated with a place now enclosed within one of the southern chapels of the multidenominational Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a site said to have been recognized by the Roman empress Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, during her visit to the Holy Land in 325.
