Serving to remind us that life is short and closely mirrors the process of spiritual transformation, butterflies are metaphors and symbols for life, hope, change, transformation, spiritual rebirth, and mystery. The ultimate surrealist transformation in nature occurs when chrysalis magically changes into butterfly. In the present work and in much of conceptual art, mental metamorphosis and imagination are required and play crucial roles in making connections between seemingly disparate and incongruous forms. If humor is a by-product of this mental exercise - all the better for the thought experience.
