Dark-valued surrealistic beach scene with ghostly figures & stick figured boats

Size: 32.3 x 25.5 in; 81.92 x 64.77 cm

Buffet's haunting otherworldly scene here fits in perfectly with the classical surrealist landscapes of those painted earlier in the 20th century. From its foreground figures resembling Henry Moore sculptures, to the skeletal boats reminiscent of Salvador Dali's paranoia-critical method, to the desolate disturbing indifferences of Yves Tanguy's landscapes, although not a nightmare proper this is at least a bad dream, and so a worthy representative of the surrealist label, which to a large degree, attempted to depict dream worlds and/or psychological tensions.
