Magritte's classic surrealistic image of a woman's naked torso as her face

Originally, both drawn and painted in 1934, Magritte returned to this revolutionary idea with variants at least three more times (in 1935, 1945 and 1948), each time lightening, lengthening & relaxing the figure's head hair, as well as transforming the pubic region from goatee-like, and eventually into a form suggestive of both a shaven groin & "mouth". Initially shocking at first blush to our sense of sight & reason, this concept has been interpreted many different ways over nearly a century from when it was first conceived & executed, most recently resonating as a statement of objectification of women's bodies in the #MeToo era.
