Important beyond adequate description. This brilliant German Expressionist classic, directed by Robert Wiene, is one of the most influential films of all cinema. A murderous blend of romanticism, fantasy, and medieval fairy tale, it centers around the darkly mysterious Dr. Caligari (Werner Krauss) and his somnambulist, Cesare (Conrad Veidt), and their innocent victim, Jane (Lil Dagover). Offered here is a vintage gelatin silver, double weight, original country-of-origin German lobby card with a glossy finish. Original paper from the film is almost impossible to find today, making this special lobby card a highly coveted piece, prominently featuring Cesare & his stolen “prize” victim Jane in the film’s climactic scene, the prototype for all monster-carrying-the-girl conceits that came after, all framed by the expressionistic set which is indistinguishable from a real-life nightmare and the dangerously-prescient authoritarian post-World War I German political climate from which it originated, and was, in turn, being commented-on by this artful piece of landmark cinema, Quite an accomplishment for just a flickering light projected on a blank canvas!
